There are a few honorable mentions, like Air Cavalry Pro (combat helicopters) and F-Sim 2 (space shuttle landing). If you fly for sightseeing, this is the way to go. Other flight sims have satelite scenery, but not at this price. Whenever I visit a new town in real life, I like to fly over it in Geo-FS. Without the subscription, it's a lousy flight sim, but with it, I can literally fly out of the grass strip near my house, fly over my home, land at the international airport near me, switch planes, and fly to Europe. It features the entire world on Bing Maps (for a $12 / year subscription) or lower-res for no subscription. No navigation system, relatively simplistic controls. You can also stand up in the cockpit, move around in the plane (even in flight) open the doors, jump out, parachute out, watch the plane land, and board it again. This focuses on the unsung heroes of military aviation: turboprop cargo craft. This is (I think) the only free game on my list, but it's unique and very fun. I'm going to put in a few landings before I go see Top Gun II tonight. Graphics are a bit dated, but the gameplay is terrific, and I don't really notice. I really like saving and replaying my old missions. It is hands down the best semi-realistic combat flight sim on IOS, with all of the major weapon and radar systems simulated, a couple of great campaigns, and a create-your own scenario system that's a lot of fun. This is an old-school combat flight sim, reminiscent of Falcon 3.0 and the like. While the graphics are dated, this game has a charm that has kept it on my ipad for years.įA-18 Hornet. There are many choices of aircraft and scenery, with tons of customization. The game focuses on remote controlled gliders. It focuses on remote controlled planes (like its more well-known cousin AbsoluteRC) but with a much larger (and included) stable of planes. ![]() It's very niche, but a hidden gem that shows a side of flying you might not have experienced. It does have an interesting set of challenges if you want a more structured flying experience. It looks good, but it turned me off constantly running into paywalls, so I just don't fly it. This was at one time the best flight sim on IOS, but after version 10 was deprecated, the newer version is just not the same. However, if you really want to fly in one of the default locations and like the default planes, it might be the best sim on IOS. ![]() With all this, I should really like it, but I don't play it much, because many of the places and planes I want to fly are only available on the subscription service, which is quite pricy. It also has a great flight planning system, and realistic navigation radios (which are surprisingly rare on IOS sims) so you can practice navigation. It's a good sim, with a nice selection of planes and some very good-looking scenery. This is the closest to MSFS in my opinion. If you are interested in trying a lot of planes, this one is a good bet. Many game modes including combat and racing, but the real joy is building or downloading planes and just goofing around. Terrain is a limited space, but still interesting. This game allows you to build your own aircraft (or boat or car) from scrach, or you can download any plane you can imagine for free. Many major airports featured, but mostly auto-generated scenery. Pro version gives you a decent selection of aircraft. I enjoy the multiple control system with things like fuel and engine controls.
